The article "Rio de Janeiro S.A.: The rise of giant corporations in Brazil's capital (1892-1914)" investigates the rise of large monopoly companies in Rio de Janeiro between 1892 and 1914, a period spanning from the consolidation of legislation on corporations to the completion of the Port and the start of World War I. Drawing on primary sources such as industrial censuses, ministerial reports, and the 1909 Brazilian Year Book, the authors demonstrate that the capital concentrated most of the country's private capital, notably the Santos Dock Company, the Rio de Janeiro City Improvements, and Rio Light, which was responsible for unifying the tram lines and supplying energy to industries and the newly constructed port. The authors' central thesis argues that the urban reforms of the early 20th century were not disinterested modernization initiatives but directly responded to the accumulation demands of these large companies, which pressured and benefited from the city's transformations.

The article "Spatial distribution of Rio's neofanfarras in the public spaces of Rio de Janeiro" investigates the geography of this cultural phenomenon, with the main objective of mapping the distribution of their performances to highlight which public areas are occupied by the movement. The research points out that neofanfarras operate as vectors of space reinvention, breaking with programmed daily life and the mercantilized urban logic to claim and actively exercise the "right to the city," as formulated by Henri Lefebvre and David Harvey. Based on georeferencing data collected between 2013 and 2023, the study reveals that the groups' activities have expanded predominantly from the Center towards the South Zone, consolidating four major concentration areas in the metropolis: the Port Region, the Praça Tiradentes-Cinelândia axis, the Santa Teresa neighborhood, and the Aterro do Flamengo, in addition to attesting to the movement's success in reoccupying the streets after the restrictions imposed by the covid-19 pandemic.

The study analyzed the care pathways sought by people living with HIV in informal and popular health subsystems in a municipality in the state of Rio de Janeiro. The main results demonstrate that the health and well-being needs of this population go beyond the formal medical system, depending heavily on informal support networks, composed of family members, friends, social media, and religious communities, to cope with stigma, provide emotional support, and ensure adherence to clinical treatment. The article also highlights that the popular subsystem, characterized by the use of medicinal plants and complementary practices, is activated as a secondary pathway focused on promoting general well-being and bodily balance, without replacing antiretroviral therapy. The research offers an overview of how sociocultural dynamics and stigma shape experiences in the urban space, reinforcing that the development of public policies and territorial interventions must necessarily integrate and value these community networks to promote more welcoming, comprehensive, and inclusive environments.

The article investigates the spatial distribution of Airbnb in the city of Rio de Janeiro based on sociodemographic indicators from the 2010 Brazilian Census, cross-referenced with 2023 data from the Inside Airbnb portal. The study demonstrates that the platform is concentrated predominantly in coastal neighborhoods inhabited by white, high-income, university-educated populations, such as Copacabana, Ipanema, and Leblon, contrasting with the company's narrative that it would promote spatial and economic redistribution of tourism throughout the city. The authors construct an Airbnb intensity index and analyze variables such as race, education, income, housing type, and occupancy regime, showing that less privileged groups, especially non-white individuals, tenants, and residents of peripheral areas, are not only absent from the areas with the highest concentration of the platform but are also the most exposed to its negative impacts, including the reduction of the long-term housing stock and pressure on property prices. The research also points to the increasing professionalization of hosts and the presence of listings around coastal favelas, signaling the expansion of platform-mediated favela tourism.

The article "Film Commissions and Tourism Promotion: An Analysis of the Case 'I'm Still Here' in the Rio de Janeiro Context" investigates how audiovisual production acts as a vector for tourism promotion and symbolic valorization of the city. The authors examine the strategic actions of the Rio Film Commission (RFC) and incentive policies, such as the cash rebate mechanism, which enabled the extensive occupation of public space for filming. Although the study highlights the potential of film tourism to boost the local economy and resignify urban landscapes, the authors point to an institutional disconnection between culture and tourism agencies. This operational gap is illustrated by the scarcity of integrated thematic itineraries and the retreat from transforming the main filming location into a public cultural facility, as the property was put up for sale. Thus, the text emphasizes that consolidating audiovisual media as a tool for territorial development depends on overcoming these institutional barriers, requiring effective, long-term integration between the sectors involved.

In the article "Animals wearing combat boots: relationships between bookies and militia- men in the West Zone of the city of Rio de Janeiro" Vieira (2024) analyzes the historical relationships between the networks of the illegal gambling game "jogo do bicho", led by the Andrade family, and the emergence of militias in Rio’s West Zone (1993-2008), exploring how economic ties, bribes, and power strategies enabled corrupt police officers to ascend as militiamen. Using court documents, interviews, and criminal network theories, the study shows how the death of Castor de Andrade catalyzed alliances between heirs of the gambling network and state agents, consolidating territorial domains based on extortion, electoral control, and the management of illegal activities. The research is fundamental to uncovering the hybrid roots between state and crime in the urban shaping of Rio.
