Abstract
News and newspaper articles at the end of 2000 pointed to the growth of private investments in the Botafogo neighborhood, notably in Botafogo Beach, where several large commercial developments were launched. Could this be a sign of changes in the characteristics of that part of the neighborhood, transforming it into a new business center of the City of Rio de Janeiro?
