Residential Mobility in the City of Rio de Janeiro

Abstract

The following report presents the first analysis of information from the Residential Mobility Survey in the City of Rio de Janeiro. The goal of this research is to construct a diagnostic indicative of the flows of household transfers in the city and the reasons that determined the decisions to change residence. This diagnostic corresponds to information about household transfers that occurred from legalized transactions, that is, the indications of the characteristics of the real estate market and residential mobility relate to the "formal city" of Rio de Janeiro. In certain cases, we will compare the results found in the research on legalized transactions with information about the informal real estate market in the city's favelas, in order to indicate complementarities and/or differences in relation to the socio-demographic and locational characteristics of residential mobility operated by both the formal and informal markets.
