About the Journal

The Coleção Estudos Cariocas - Carioca Studies Collection (ISSN 1984-7203) is a publication dedicated to studies and research on the Municipality of Rio de Janeiro, affiliated with the Pereira Passos Institute (IPP) under the Municipal Secretariat of the Civil House of the Rio de Janeiro City Hall. Since 2001, it has published reflections on the city of Rio de Janeiro and its regional interactions, characterized by a wide thematic range of studies aligned with the spatial focus on Rio de Janeiro.

Focus and Scope

Its objective is to disseminate technical and scientific production on topics related to the city of Rio de Janeiro, including its metropolitan links and its placement in regional, national, and international contexts. The journal is open to all researchers (whether municipal employees or not), encompassing diverse areas such as Social Assistance, Territorial Cadastre, Cartography and Geoprocessing, Religious Studies, Culture, Demography, Development, Real Estate Dynamics, Right to the City, Human Rights, Economics, Education, Sports and Leisure, Public Management, Housing, History, Infrastructure, Environment, Heritage, Sanitation, Health, Public Security, Remote Sensing, Sociology, Transportation, Tourism, Territory, Land Use, Urbanism, and others — provided they address, partially or entirely, the spatial scope of the city of Rio de Janeiro.
Articles must also align with the Institute's objectives, namely:
I - to promote and coordinate public intervention in the urban space of the Municipality;
II - to provide and integrate the activities of the system of geographic, cartographic, monographic information, and statistical data of the City;
III - to support the establishment of basic guidelines for the socioeconomic development of the Municipality.
Special emphasis will be given to the articulation of the articles with the city's economic development proposal. Thus, it is expected that the multidisciplinary articles submitted to the journal will address the urban development needs of Rio de Janeiro.

Periodicity

In recent years, the journal had an irregular publication frequency. With the migration to the professional publishing platform OJS and the restructuring of the Editorial Board, all articles since 2001 have been indexed and republished with DOIs.
Starting in 2025, the publication frequency has been set to two regular issues per year, in a continuous flow, plus two special issues with specific themes. The platform is already open for article submissions, with reviews underway. If you wish to make a submission, access this link.

Policies and Evaluation Guidelines

Articles must be unpublished and may include innovative applications, case studies, and methodological proposals. Articles can be submitted in Portuguese, English, or Spanish, and bilingual or trilingual publication is encouraged after editing, provided the author validates the translations.
The double-blind peer review process takes up to one month, with the full editorial flow — from submission to publication — lasting a maximum of two months and two weeks (in cases of positive recommendations without revisions), thus ensuring a swift and responsible editorial process.

Author Guidelines and Submission Standards

For the initial submission, articles (in Portuguese, English, or Spanish) must include an abstract of up to 100 words, a main text of 4000 to 10000 words, and a bibliography. Articles may be uploaded  in the journal's format, but submissions will be accepted in any format, as long as there is consistency in the numbering of topics and bibliographic citations (using the “your paper, your way” system). In special cases, and upon prior consultation with the Editorial Board, shorter or longer articles may be considered for review.
After the submission of the initial version, the article will be anonymously and independently evaluated by two (or more) specialists, who will issue a recommendation for its publication, revision, or rejection.
If the reviewers issue a favorable opinion (with or without revisions), the author(s) will be responsible for formatting the final version according to the standard provided by the Editorial Board. Article templates may be obtained in both .docx or LaTeX formats:

Following this, the text editing process will begin, including a final review by the Editor-in-Chief and the Associate Editor, and the final composition for publication in the system with the assignment of a DOI.

There are no fees or article processing charges (APCs) for publication.
