Abstract
When considering an overview of mortality, it is important to remember that deaths are concentrated at the extremes of life: the highest probabilities of death occur at birth and after entering old age. This trend is reinforced by the life expectancy indicator at birth and at the age of sixty. Interestingly, life expectancy at birth is lower than that calculated for those who manage to complete one year of life. Life expectancy also increases for those who reach 60 years, as they have survived the challenges of adult life, especially for men, whose lives are often prematurely shortened by external causes.
